The question of barley-growing and the prices paid by New Zealand Breweries (Ltd.), brought up earlier in the year and deferred, was again taken up, as a result of replies to letters forwarded to the Central Otago branches. It was stated by letter that the insufficiency of the price had had a decreasing effect On the amount grown in these districts. The Christchurch executive had asked that a conference between the barley-growing provinces and the buyers should be held and representations made for 6s per bushel instead of 5s or 5s 6d. Central Otago branches would support the Blenheim branch in any move taken.
It was decided that Christchurch be asked to convene the conference, the Otago districts to send delegates.
Mr Snowball wrote in respect of rbosphorised pollard, stating that many runholders were very satisfied. New he said, was being installed and a big improvement in quality and supply was expected. The Milton branch asked the executive to endorse the appointment of Mr Neil M'Arthnr to life membership of the Milton branch. —Agreed to. The Tapanni branch wrote suggesting that the Railways Department should attempt to have a stock train put on from Invercargill to Burnside and connecting with branch lines on sale days.—Left in the hands of the secretary to write to the department and the Invercargill Union.

A resolution of appreciation of the work of the Department of Agriculture in laying down the experimental area at Logan Park was carried unanimously.— Mr J. Craig said the plots had been invaluable to farmers, and represented a lot of hard, patient work. Mr J. Christie heartily endorsed the previous speaker’s statements. The area had been of the greatest instructive value. At the close of the meeting Mr F. Waite said that it was the end of a perfect year for him. and he wished to take the opportunity of thanking his executive for its constant assistance throughout hie term as president. The President referred to the approaching departure for Southland of Mr C. F. Overton (vice-president), who had been a consistent and valuable member of the executive. On behalf of the union he offered Mr Overton the best wishes for success and prosperity in his new home. Mr Overton thanked the president and the executive for their good wishes. MUTUAL FIRE ASSURANCE ASSOCIATION. SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING. Mr John Clark presided over a special general meeting o£ the Otago Farmers’ Mutual Fire Assurance Association, at which the same delegates attended. The business of the meeting was to confirm new by-laws approved by the directors and to discuss the election, rotation, and retirement of directors. It was feared that the confirming of these by laws would be in the nature of a surprise to any members of the association who had not yet sent in nominations. Any members with such intentions could not give the requisite 21 days’ notice. With the assurance of the directors that their right to refuse nominations sent in to-day would not be exercised, the meeting confirmed the by-laws.
