TAIERI A. AND P. SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The sixty-fifth annual meeting of the Taieri Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held at Outram yesterday afternoon, the president (Mr James A. Williamson) occupying the chair. There was a good attendance of members. .. .. . The annual report stated, inter aha, that the annual show was held on .November ", 1925. Though attendances and entries had been a little below that of the previous year, she fixture was a decided, success. Comparisons of this year s balance sheet with that of the previous year showed that there was an increase in subscriptions of £49 8s 6d, a decrease in entry fees and gate receipts of £l2 Os 6d and £52 15s 3d respectively. The year opened with a credit balance of £2Ol 17s 6d, £l9O of which amount was deposited in the Sayings Banx, Receipts from all sources totalled £493 4s 3d, and the expenditure was £504 13s 2d. Of this expenditure £145 3s 7d was spent in improving the show grounds. In us the balance sheet disclosed a profit of £153 14s 8d on the year’s working. The amount paid out in cash prizes was £193 13s, and in addition goods to the value of £SO 2s were awarded. The members’ roll was increased by 42, the total now standing at 262. The committee recorded with dqep regret the death of Mr D. E. Grant, a past president, who at the time of his death was a member of committee and keenly interested in the affairs of the society. His place would be hard to fill. Sympathy was expressed with the widow and family. In conclusion, the committee thanked all exhibitors for their support, and all who had assisted the society with donations, subscriptions, and personal service. The Chairman said, in moving the adoption of the report, that the society had reason to congratulate itself on a successful year, despite the inclement weather tnat threatened the success of the show. Members loyalty in the matter of subscriptions and donations had largely recompensed the society for the bad weather on show day. Mr’ Johnson said that the balance sheet wa« the most satisfactory for many years, and with the spirit at present prevailing there was no reason why the ensuing year should not bo as successful as the past one. He said the society owed a debt of gratitudo to a sturdy few who had worked hard to get entries and donations, which had contributed in no small manner to the success of the year’s operations. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. , The election of office-bearers for the year 1926 resulted as follows President, Mr Jas. Dow jun.; vice-president, Mr Gordon Duth’ie; auditor, Mr J. Logan; committee -Messrs J. Young, H. Shand, R. Thomson, Jas. Walker, Win. Kirkland, P. Doherty, C. Findlay, A. Bathgate, W. Kirk C IT. I.eith E. F. Black, R. T. Kirk, and J. G. Ronton; honorary veterinary surgeons, Messrs Snowball and MTlwame. , A vote of thanks to the retiring auditor (Mr J. A. MTvinnon) was carried unanimThe^retiring Chairman (Mr Jas. A, Williamson) said he could not vacate the chair without thanking the committee and the secretary (Mr John Williamson) for the way they had assisted, making his position a very easy one. , , It was suggested that November 20 be fixed as the date for the annual show, this date to be submitted to a conference of A- and P societies to be held during Winter Show Week, so that the dates of the various fixtures might not clash Mr W. Kirkland suggested that the Grill Hall should be moved to the Recreation Ground, whern it would be looked after much better than at present, and at the same time it would fulfil a useful purpose. Mr Walker (chairman of the Outram Town Board) said negotiations were being entered into for the transfer of the ball from the Town Board to the Domain Board. The Secretary brought up the question ot open classes in the Friesian sections. He said there were many herd-owners on the Taieri with “black and whites, who would be willing to exhibit their stock if there were open classes in which non-pedigree stock- could bo entered. He suggested that .neb classes be provided. One member said that, would mean exhibitors showing crossbreds ns purebreds. A Voice; There’s a lot of that done now. ]t was explained that the classes were intruded for unregistered purebreds. Breeders of pedigree rattle were loath to allow unregistered rattle to compete with lt,p registered stork, either in individual • classes or in championships. It was considered that any extra classes should bo confined to females, as it was no good en-corn-aging the keeping of unregistered bulls. After a good deal of discussion Lie meeting decided that the Friesian se-tmn remain unaltered. , . _ . Messrs o. Findlay and A. Douglas were defied life members of the association-
