TAIERI EXPANSION LEAGUE.
A meeting of the Taieri Expansion League was held on Tuesday evening, and was presided over by Mr E. Swailes (president). In addition to the committee of the league, some members of the School Committee, Mr Martin (rector), and the Mayor and some of the councillors, were present, Mr Swailes welcomed the visitors and asked for a round-the-table discussion about many things concerning the welfare of the borough. The meeting decided to take steps to entertain Messrs T. K. Sidey, M.P., and J. M‘C. Dickson, M.P., in recognition of their services to the town and immediate surroundings. A sub-committee was appointed to carry out the details. It was mentioned by the Mayor that the Commissioner of Crown Lands had been instructed by the Minister to inspect the block of land lying alongside the Mosgie] railway station, which the council had asked to be taken over for a model settlement for homes, and which the Prime Minister had inspected during his recent visit. The league has under consideration the issuing of a booklet descriptive of Mosgiel and the surrounding districts. By a distribution of this booklet freely, both in and» beyond New Zealand, it is hoped to attract more families to the district. Mr T. Miller (president) has resigned, and Mr E. Swailes was elected in his stead. The league has decided to give every assistance possible to the bazaar now under way in aid of the Mosgiel Municipal Band.
