INDIAN ARMY TEAM’S TOUR. (Pr.B United Press Association.) DANNEVLRKE, May 26. Played under practically perfect conditions except that the light suddenly failed for about a quarter of an hour in the concluding stages, the hockey match between the Indian army team and the Dannevirke representatives on the Domain, in the presence of between 5000 and 4000 spectators, was interesting throughout. The visitors recorded the largest score of their Dominion tour so far, being victorious ’by 20 goals to nil. Though the score was so lopsided, the game, according to one of the visiting European officers, was the best the team has participated in since reaching New Zealand- The first spell ended with eight goals to the credit of the Indians, and in the second spell they added 12 more. Dhian Chand (centre forward) again upheld his reputation as a scorer, notching seven goals. Captain was a close second, with six. Captain Cox got (our, Corporal Susanthan two, and Secondlieutenant Lai Sigh one. The visitors outshone the home team in stick work, dribbling, and tactics generally, while their shooting was very deadly. The feature of their play was the push shot, which they used at all times very effectively, while in corner hits one man stopped the ball with his hand and another took a shot at goal, which proved a fruitful method of attack. The visitors’ exposition outshone that of the home team all round, and they played a fast game from start to finish. The referees, Messrs Mainscott and Aitcheson i gave every satisfaction. The curtain-raiser between Manawtu and Ruabine ladies’ teams resulted in a win for the former by 3 goals to nil.
