The provincial and Dominion conferences of fruit-growers will be held during June. Regarding the electrification of the Lyttelton tunnel, it is expected that within the next fortnight Mr J, E L. Cull, designing engineer, Public Works Department, will visit Christchurch to go into matters from tha Public Works point of view (says the Press). Mr Cull is a member of the Special Board of Experts set up to deal with the question of the electrification of the tunnel, and it is probable that this body will take evidence, especially on the question of electrifying not only the tunnel, but the line from Lyttelton to the Middleton marshalling yards. ■ According, to Car tain B. Voss, of the German freighter Freiburg, now in Australian waters. Australia will shortly receive a flow of Germans, even greater than the present influx of Southern Europeans. Captain Voss, in an interview in a Melbourne paper recently, said there were thousands of Germans feverishly awaiting the opportunity to come to the Commonwealth. He predicted that if cheap fares from Hamburg to Melbourne were made available, and he believed something of the bind will come about, there would be no stopping the rush of emigrants. Captain Voss said that a strong trade connection had now been estaolished between Australia and Germany.
