KAWARAU COMPANY The following is the progress report of the Kawaiau Gold Mining Company for the period ended May 10:—“Owing to Heavy rain during the last fortnight, the lake level has risen Ift Sin, and now stands at sft lOJin, but as winter is approaching, it is anticipated that the lake, wilt commence t<> drop to its seasonal level. Gales 9 and 10 have been completea, and the whole of No. 10 pier has been stripped. The erection of the steelwork for bridge spans 9 and 10 is well forward, and it is hoped to have the gate lifting winches and shafts in position early next week The centre channel diversion dam has been successfully completed, end the water in the old channel is calm enough for diving operations Diving operations at the sites of piers 6 and 7 were commenced on Monday. Three divers are being employed, and they are now cleaning up the loose rubble ou the bottom along the lino cf the proposed concrete coffer-dam. It is hoped that they will make rapid progress with this work, as most of the material to be cleared is clean rubble, from 3ft to £.t deep in a few places.’’
