SALEYARD METHODS.

TO THE EDITOR Sir A letter appeared in your paper lately in reference to the selling of sheep at Burnside yards, and I am pleased to see that the farmers are waking up to the unsatisfactory way in which fat sheep are sold at this market. It does not say much for the managers of the firms represented at Burnside when they allow this absurd system to go on, and unless they consider their clients’ interests more than they are doing, the system adopted should be broadcasted throughout Otago. Why should the sheep penned in Paddy’s Market be offered at the end of the sale? It is not the stock agents who suffer hy allowing this absurd procedure to go on. but ihe poor farmei who again comes in and apparently has fio say in the matter. Why cannot this Paddy's Market be allotted a number end thus come under the same category as the race pens? Any sane person can see at a glance that this is necessary, but still no one seems to move in the matter even although the firms represented at Burnside think that an alteration is necessary I only hone that the Fanners' Union will interest itself in this case and expose the ridiculous procedure that goes on. It is really hard to believe ‘hat anv un-to date firm could ever fall in with the : dea of disposing of sheep under the present system but apparently they do not think, md will rot think until they feel the effect, as the farmers are doing at present—l am, etc., Another Farmer
