GENERAL NEWS.
The committee of the High Street School met on Wednesday evening. It was reported that the latest acquisition to the school was a delineascope A demonstration would be given as soon aa the electrica' ap pointmenta had been installed. The head master (Mr Abel) reported that the attendance was a little under the average owing to the prevalence of colds. Two Rugby teams and two hockey teams had been entered in the school competitions. The regular meeting of the All Nations Lodge was held in the Druids’ Hall, Port Chalmers. A.D. Bro. M’Kenzie presided. It was decided to pay an official visit to Ivanhoe on the next lodge night, and also to Pride of Mornington. It was also decided to hold the next church parade at a Methodist church. The report of the Dance Committee showed a substantial credit balance. D.P. Bro. M'Farlane and P.D.P Bro. Walker were welcome visitors. There was a large gathering of Druids from No. 1 and No. 2 Districts at Green Island on Tuesday last, when Bro. W. R, Harvey was installed D.P. for No. 2 District. ’ D.P. Bro. Reid, asietod by P.D.P Bro Faulds and D.P. Bro. M'Farlane, carried out the ceremony in a very impressive manner. Bro. Reid was also a person of importance, aa he joined the ranks of the ’Past District Presidents. G.T. Bro. Blrt presented Bro. Reid with his framed diploma, and P.D.P. Bro. Wilson presented him with his P.D.P. collar, tokens of respect and esteem from the members of No. 2 District. D.P. Bro. Harvey presented P.A Bro Johns with his P.A. diploma. At a meeting hold in the Green Island School, on Tuesday last, it was decided to form a School Association, which will be called the Green Island School Association. The Mayor (Mr W. T. Smellie) was elected president; Miss Mary Mills, Messrs Thoa. Tomkins (chairman of the School Committee), F. Hilgendbrf (head master), and W. Brown, vice-presidents: Mr A. M. Love, hon. serrotary: Mr J. L. Miller, hon. treasurer: Messrs F. Wright. T. M'Ahan, W. Miller, Mrs Seafield, and Misses Irvine and Pringle, a committee; and Mr A. Kane, auditor. It was decided that the membership be open to all ex-pupils, teachers, ex-teachers, committeemen. and ex-commltteemen. H was decided to hold an inauguration social and dance at an early date. On the motion of Mr J. L. Miller, the following resolution was carried unanimously ;—“That this association agrees to contribute towards the cost of the erection and furnishing of a dental clinic at the school.” It rvas mentioned that all children residing in the district over two and a-half years of age were entitled to free treatment at the clinic, and the meeting agreed that the establishment of such an adjunct to the school was an urgent matter, and in -the best interests of the health of the children resident in the district. One of the committee volunteered to canvass the district for subscriptions towards the object.
