TEACHERS’ INSTITUTE.

The aimunl meeting of the Dunedin subbranch of the Otago Educational Institute was hold' in the teachers’ cluhroom, Moray place, on Thursday. Mr C. M'Kinnon (president) occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of members. The annual report was read and adopted It stated that despite the many counterattractions the sub-branch had had n successful year, and interest was on the increase. The following ofliee-bearers were appointed for the ensuing year:—President. Mr C. M'Kinnon; secretary. Mr J. 0. Smith; committee—Misses Sullivan and Itobertson. Messrs Jones, Palmer, Hawke, and Woods. The election took place for members to represent the sub-branch on the Committee of Management of the Otago Educational Institute, and the following were elected:—Misses Sullivan and Robertson, Messrs Jones. Palmer. Abel. Forrester, and ■Woods. A dicussion took place concerning the “P.iblc-in-Schools” question, but owing to the many phases which this important matter presents, the meeting was not. able to express a definite policy in the matter Arrangements were made to set in operation the “Reading Circle” movement, at the opening meeting of which Mr T. R. Fleming, late chief inspector of Otago, will deliver a lecture.
