BOARD OF AGRICULTURE.
COST OF PRODUCTION. PREPARING DEFINITE DATA. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. April 14. In order that the position of the producer may be clearly defined and better understood, efforts are being made by the president of the Board of Agriculture to secure accurate information as to the cost of production of wool, butter, and thecse. and other primary products in New Zealand. In placiig memoranda on the subject before th > board, the president intimated that it was desired that the data should be available to enable producers to meet the unwarranted assertions as to the profits made by those engaged in the various primary industries. Mr A. H. Cockayne (director of the fields division) indicated that his branch was already wording along the lines outlined. The board submitted certain suggestions and approved of the lines upon which the department’s investigations were being conducted. The board gave consideration to the representations received by the Department of Agriculture, urging the modification of regulations at present In operation relating to the introduction of stock and agricultu-al produce from countries in which foot and mouth disease exists. It was agreed, in view of the serious nature of the disease and the great loss which would arise should it find its way to the Dominion, that the time bad not arrived for the withdrawing of the present restrictions, but that consideration should now be given to these dealing with the importation o' seeds from the United States of America.
