GENERAL NEWS.

The North-end Druids, Lily of the Valley Lodge, held its usual meeting in the Millar Street Hall, North-East Valley, A.D. Bro. Winter presiding over a fair attendance. Correspondence was dealt with and several iteins were left to the secretary to deal with. Invitations were received from Linden and Mistletoe Lodges on the occasion of the installation of district residents. The A.D. reported that several candidates were expected at the meeting. The Royal Arch Chapter of Otago held its monthly meeting in the Dowling Street Hall, R.A.D. Bro. Macfarlane presiding over a good attendance. Correspondence and routine business was attended to. Several notices of motions were received and noted. It was mentioned that the Grand Lodge and board would present at the next meeting the charter which is the first one to be given in the Dominion. The RA..D. extended a hearty welcome to visiting brethern and invited them to take part in a euchre competition, the winner proving to be P.A. Bro. Borrow, of the Ivanhoe Lodge. Olive branch, Juvenile Lodge No. 1, held its fortnightly meeting in the George Street School Hall, A D. Bro. Thompson, jun., presiding over a large attendance, including well-known members of the order. The meeting was in charge of Superintendent Bro. Faulds, P.D.P. Minutes and correspondence were dealt with, and donations from a brother at Invercargill and a brother from the Bay Lodge were received with thanks. Four candidates sought admission and were received with the usual ceremony, the odes being heartily sung by the juveniles. The charges given by the various officers were creditable. The boys were entertained at a shooting match presided over by PA. Bro. Smith. At the next meeting prizes will be given to the winners. The fortnightly meeting of Lodge Ivanhoe, No. 17, U.A.0.D., which was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Stuart street, was presided over by A.D. Bro. Henwood, who greeted a very fair muster of members and friends from sister lodges. D.P. Bro. E. Macfarlane paid the lodge an official visit and was accorded a warm Druidic welcome. After the usual business hail been dealt with, the lodge adjourned for the purpose of holding a euchre tournament. The following were adjudged the winners:—Mrs Phelan 1, Mrs Douglas 2, Mrs King 3; J. Stewart 1, J. Brockie 2, W. Clark 3. The monthly meeting of the Forbury School Committee was. held on Monday night, Mr W. Fleming in the chair. The other members present were: Messrs H. W. Alexander, L. J. Ballard, C. A Lucas, W. Ritchie, and J. T. Roberts. The Head Master reported that the average attendance for the past month was 694.6, the average roll number 732, and the percentage of attendance 94.8 The amount deposited in the savings bank for the month was £32 10s. The sport-master’s request for eports material was granted up to £7. The bandmaster asked for permission to take the band to the Education Court at the Exhibition to-day.—Granted. The winter term, vacation for this year has been fixed for May 31 to June 14, both days inclusive. The Visiting Committee reported that it had visited the school during the month, and that the Education Board were experimenting with a piece of ground wdth bitumen asphalt. The secretary and treasurer submitted a draft report for the annual meeting of householders, which was and authorised to be printed. The Chairman thanked the committee for its support during the past year.
