FIRES.
BOX FACTORY DESTROYED. (Per United Pbess Association.) BKETAHUNA, April 12. At midday yesterday Mr F. Burling's box factory and machinery were totally destroyed by a fire which apparently started in the vicinity of the boiler room. A quantity ot sawn timber was also lost. The insurance was £llOO, but the loss is estimated at £BOO over this amount. SAWMILL GUTTED. (Per United Press Association.) GORE, April 12. The sawmill of Halliday Bros., at Waitane, near Mataura, was destroyed by fire yesterday morning. The hands worked hard to save the mill, but the flames had too good a hold when the outbreak was discovered. The owners have decided to rebuild the mill on modern lines immediately. The insurances total £1550, in the Victoria office, but the loss exceeds this figure considerably. A LOCAL CALL. The only call received by the City Fire Brigade yesterday was to a hedge near the residence of Mrs Patterson, in York place. The fire, which took place at 7.33 p.Tn., was extinguished after a hole had been burned in the hedge.
