Carter and Mrs Carter are leaving London by the Oronsay on February 20, and are due to arrive *n Melbourne on I ' .rch 29. Dr Carter is secretar of the Zenna Bible and Medical Mission, and is going out to visit the auxiliaries of the society in Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania. Thirty years ago the Australian Auxiliary was started, and since then very material help has been received. Some seven years ago New Zealand ceased to act through Australia, and formed a separate auxiliary, and now transmits moi.ev direct to London. The work in India ha= grown v rapidly, and a number of eminent people are now interested in the mission. It is an interdenominational soccty which works freely with all evangelical soc.eties in India. Its operations, confined entirely to India, are directed solely towards helping women and children. It was founded in 1852 py Lady Kinnaird, mother cf the late Lord Kinnaird. and the Kinnoird family has been vorv closely associated with it during all (he years. The late Lord Kinnaird was the treasure of the society, and the present Ladv Kinnaird is the president. Lord Meston is the present treasurer, and Sir John Gumming. K.C.5.1., CUE.. is the honorary financial secretary. The revenue of the society is about £52,000 a year. So far as the children are concerned the society devotes a ercat deal of attention to education, and has many village schools. In Pf> bay the_ Queen Mary High School, and i,ie Lady Kinnaird School in "Lahore, stand In the front place in Indian Christian education. The society also began the Lord Kinnaird Christian of deserted and orphaned children, and a co-operative college. A great work has bee done in the rescue of deserted and orphaned children, and there arc important homes in the Bombay Presidency and the United iTovinces. New Zealand has undertaken to be responsible for a sat ion in the United Provinces at Jannnnr.
