CHINESE CHAOS
MINES IN TAKU RIVER. PROTEST BY DIPLOMATIC BODY. (Prew Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) PEKING, March 11. Reports from Tientsin state that as a result of representations on the subject of mines sunk in the river mouth at Taku made by the consular body to Kuo-Min-chin, the authorities have now arranged that ships displaying special signals shall bo allowed to enter and leave the rher during daylight. The diplomatic body ’ protested to the Foreign Office against Peking being cut off from the sea in violation of the protocol of 1901. The self-constituted hospital section ot the Miscellaneous Workers’ Union, stating that it was acting under orders from the Agricultural and Labourers’ Commission, entered the Canton Hospital and forced the working staff, excepting the Chinese nurses, to strike, threatening to kill any remaining behind. The workers appealed for police protection, which was refused. There axe 70 patients likely to starve in the hospital. The water and food supplies were cut off. The electricity will bo cut off later.—Reuter. FENG SUFFERS A REVERSE. PEKING, March 11. (Received March 12, at 5.5 p.m.) The remainder of Feng-Yu-hsiang’s forces in the Honan province have been driven to Shenohow where they are surrounded. Feng-Yu-hsiang’s supporter Yu-Shwei-chun, Governor of Honan is reported to have been killed by members of a secret society called Tho Redspears. Chao-Hang-ti, who is Governor of the Honan province was . forced to leave the provincial capital. Foreigners at ChangSha have requested that a gunboat bo sent in view of the threatening outlook. Chang-Tso-lin’s troops attempted to land from transports at the mouth of the PeiHi River, hut Feng-Yu-hsiang’s troops captured all of the 200 who landed.— Reuter. DESTROYERS DESPATCHED. TOKIO, March 11. (Received March 12, at 8 p.m.) In connection with the troubles in China three destroyers have been despatched from Port Arthur to Taku.—Reuter.
