A.S.R.S. SECRETARYSHIP.

QUESTION OF AN INJUNCTION. STATEMENT BY GENERAL SECRETARY. (Peb United Press Association ' AUCKLAND, March 12. In reference to the Press telegram yesterday stating that the Auckland branch of (he Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants had resolved to take legal steps at the expense of the branch against the Executive Council’s proposals for the general secretaryship by lodging an injunction, Mr J. Muck (general secretary) said to-day that the injunction was not being brought by the Auckland branch, but by a member of the branch. “It is not proposed,” said Hr Hack, “that the position shall be open to permanent members only ns suggested, because there are three issues before members to be decided by preferential voting. They are;— (1) That the position shall be open to all members of tbe society. (2) That it shall bo restricted to those members who have two years’ financial membership dating back from the date of nomination. (3) That it shall be confined to members of the Permanent Staff only. “It will be observed that if the third issue were eliminated those who are not in favour of either of the remaining issues would have no alternative but to refrain from voting or making their votes informal. In other words, they would he disfranchised. As the ballot paper stands every financial member can vote in favour of the issue which, in his opinion, is the most desirable. There is no violation of the society's rules. In fact, it is in accordance with the biennial conference decision. The executive is merely consulting the membership on a question that is of the utmost importance prior to arriving at a decision.”
