ST. KILDA PUBLIC LIBRARY.

ANNUAL EFFORT. In its annual report the committee of the St. Kilda Public Library states that at tire close of the year the total number of subscribers was 104, as against 106 tor 1924. This total was somewhat disappointing but it was recognised that the Exhibition had drawn away many readers for the time being. During tho last year 159 new books of fiction were added to the list, the total number of volumes now available being 2068. The books in the library were carefully gone over by a special committee and all the very old and damaged books were destroyed. A large number of those by standard authors were rebound and again put into circulation.

The committee again expresses its thanks for assistance to the St. Kilda Council for an annual grant and the free use cf the hall and lighting j and to Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., for an annual donation. Special thanks were due to Mrs Beattie and Mrs M'Cracken the hon. librarians for the manner in which they carried out their duties, and to Mrs Notman for the ready assistance in relieving the secretary. Eulogistic reference was made to the excellent and enthusiastic work which had been done by the secretary.
