A conference of the patriotic societies of the Dominion is to be held within the next few weeks for the purpose of considering the future control and disbursement of the patriotic funds held by the various societies. Notification to tins effect was received at a meeting of the Auckland Patriotic and War Relief Association yesterday, when the meeting appointed Messrs A. G. Lunn, A. S. Bankart, and V. J. Lamer as its delegates. , , ~ Mr H. Horton said that if there were any idea of pooling the funds of the societies the Auckland delegates should be instructed to oppose it. The society, he said, had a large local fund, which had been subscribed for tiie benefit of the men of the province. The President (Sir James Gunson) said that such a desire on the part of some of the southern societies could be detected in representations that had been made. Mr Horton moved—“ That it be an instruction to the society’s delegates that the Auckland Association was opposed in t every way to any suggestion of a. general pooling of the funds.” This was carried unanimously.
