As treasurer for the lengthy period of five years, and recently also as secretary, you have rendered unstinted and devoted service, while a a a member of the council and the executive your Christian principles and ripened wisdom have been a source of inspiration and strength to us all. It would not be fitting that we should permit you to leave this city without expressing our deep sense of obligation, not only for your valuable services, but also for your generosity in giving those services to the cause without fee or reward. Your fine sense of honour, unfailing courtesy, and ready tact have characterised all relations with your follow workers, whose heartfelt wish is that Mrs Nichol, yourself, and family, may long bo spared and be abundantly blessed.” The president was supported in hia remarks bv Mrs Don, Messrs H. S. Adams, 11. Raine, R. D. Poison, R. W. Hall, and 'Win.. King. Letters of appreciation of Mr Nicliol's work were also read from the Dominion Executive of (he New Zealand Alliance, the brigadier of Salvation Army for Otago, F. W. Burton, the Rev. Geo. Miller, and”' fro n many other prominent loca’ workers who were unable to be present. Mr Nichol suitably replied in a speech appreciative of the kind things said. During the evening musical and elocutionary items were creditably rendered by Mjae Wilson and Messrs Jas. latetaon and J. Ockwell.
