CRUSHING THE RUSSIAN.
As under some other tyrannies, Bolshevist rule in Russia sees to it that if people cannot be made to think in order they shall at least be required to read to order, or else not to read at all. A decree has been issued (o the provincial authoritie 8 explaining what books must not be in the libraries. There must be no books that teach religion; only books that attack religion. Books on Nature must never suggest that there is a wise God behind the world. Books on philisophy must not teach ideals. There must he no books defending political liberty, or democracy, or Tsarism, or constitutional monarchy, or republicanism, and no books giving the laws of any previous form of government in Russia. Even books supporting the views held in the early days of the Soviet are ruled out. Any books in the libraries that sin against any of these rules must be thrown out.
