MINING.
WAIHI GRAND JUNCTTON. Application for protection of its nrmiog claims and site for a further period of six months was made by the Walhl Grand Junction Gold Company in the Waihi Warden’s Court on January 19 (says the Waihi correspondent of the New Zealand Herald). Counsel for the applicant company, Mr W. M. Jackson, stated that there was no alternative to seeking further indulgence, the object' being to give the company a chance to get on to feet again. After reading a cablegram from London stating that if protection were not granted there would be nothing betore the company but liquidation, Mr Jackson went on to say that he had nothing concrete to place oefore the court, and was not in a position to give any assurance that money could be raised in the event of protection being granted. He could say. however, that every effort was being made to find further capital for the development of the property, but the prospects of doing so would be greatly diminished tinless the company’s title were assured. It those at present associated with the concern could not raise the necessary money it was pretty safe to say that nobody else would be able to do so, and in the interests of the town and mining generally the company should be given every chance. The Warden said the position was that the Minister of Mines would have to be satisfied that protection should be extended for a further period, and he would therefore forwr rd the information to him, advising
