(Received Jan. 19, at 9.55 p.m.) In -a speech at Ludlow, reviewing the Government’s record, the Rt Hon W. C. Bridgeman (Minister of Home Affairs) said it was not generally known that the other great maritime Powers, namely, the United States, Japan, Franc© and Italy had laid down since the war over 300 warships, from cruisers downwards, while Great Britain’s contribution was only 11. “So ” concluded the Minister, “do not let anyone say we led the -competition in the new construction of warships.”—A. and N.Z.
