The Mararoa sailed early yesterday morning for Wellington direct on her last trip ln the special service between the northern port and Dunedin. The Calm is now expected to come to Dunedin to-morrow morning from Port Ohalmers to load general cargo. She is listed to sail on Monday for Timaru, Lyttelton, "Wellington, and Wanganui, The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Ruapehu is to eail at daybreak to-morrow for Lyttelton to continue Homeward loading. Tho Kia Ora is expected to bo clear or the local portion of her Glasgow and Liverpool cargo to-morrow. She will sail on Sunday morning for Hew Plymouth to complete discharge. '• The Kahika, which is undergoing repairs and alterations at Port Chalmers, will be recommissioned on Monday. She will load at Dunedin on Tuesday for Wellington, Kapler, and Gisborne. The Opihi, which is undergoing survey at Port Chalmers, is now fixed to load at Dunedin on Tuesday fox Wellington, Nelson, and > . v Plymouth. MERTON HALL DUE TO-MORROW. Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. advise that the A. and A. Line’s chartered steamer Merton Hall is due at Dunedin to-morrow from Lyttelton to continue discharging general cargo from Xew York. She will sail about Tuesday for Hobart and Launceston to complete discharge. INCOMING SAN FRANCISCO MAIL. The R.M.S. Makura arrived at Papeete at 6 a.m. on Saturday last, en route from San Francisco to Wellington. She left Papeete for Rarotonga at 5 p.m. the same day, and is due at Wellington on Monday. THE MELBOURNE STEAMERS. The Union Company advises that the Manuka will leave Port Chalmers after the arrival of the 10.15 a.m. train from Dunedin to-morrow for Wellington and Melbourne. The Moeraki is timed to leave Melbourne at 10 a.m. to-morrow for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin with passengers, mads, and cargo. She is due here on January 23, and is scheduled to sail on January 25 for Melbourne, via Bluff and Milford Sound. CAMBRIDGE FROM LIVERPOOL. The Federal Lino steamer Cambridge arrived at Auckland on Wednesday evening from Liverpool. She is carrying cargo from West of England ports for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is due here about January 30. WILLASTON FROM SAN FRANCISCO. The Union Company advises that the chartered steamer Willaston is due at Napier on Sunday from San Francisco. The vessel is bringing general Canadian and American cargo for discharge at Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and New Plymouth. She should arrive here about January 2S. TAHITI LEAVES RAROTONGA. The R.M.S. Tahiti arrived at Rarotonga at 2 p.m. on Saturday from Wellington, en route to San Francisco, and left there at 11.30 p.m. the same day for Papeete and San Francisco. THE CANADIAN BRITISHER. The Canadian Britisher left Auckland on Wednesday sfternoon for Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin to discharge the remainder of her cargo from Montreal. The vessel is due here on January 27, and will load Dominion products for New fork, Boston, and Halifax before proceeding to Wellington and Auckland to complete loading. NORFOLK. TO LEAVE NAPIER. The Federal Company advises that the Norfolk, which arrived at Napier on Sunday last from Auckland, is due at Wellington bo-morrow to continue discharge of her Liverpool cargo. The vessel 'later proceeds to Lyttfelton and Dunedin to complete discharge. AVERAGE ADJUSTMENT. Particulars have been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company of the average adjustment in connection with the collision between the steamers Remuera and Marengo in the English Channel on July 21, 1922. TEEKIEVE FROM MONTREAL. The steamer Trekieve, which is running under the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company, was to leave Auckland yesterday for Wellington, thence Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Sydney, to complete discharge of her Canadian cargo. She is due here about January 22. PERSONAL ITEMS. Captain P. L. Molyneux, late of the Kekeranga, will take command of the Manuka, which will be recommissioned to-day at Port Chalmers for the Melbourne-New Zealand service. Mr W. M. Jackson has replaced Mr W. Johnston as second engineer of the Corinna. Mr J. Crosthwaite has signed off the Maori’s articles as second mate, and Mr T. Evans has joined the vessel in his stead. FRENCH STEAMER SIERENTZ. The French steamer Sierentz, which arrived at Lyttelton on Monday last from Sabine, is one of seven vessels owned by the Louis Dreyfus C< mpany of Paris. On her present voyage she steamed from France to Newport News with a cargo of iron ore, and then proceeded to Sabine, Texas, where her cargo of bulk sulphur was loaded. She sailed on December 12 for Lyttelton, and with the exception of three days prior to reaching her destination, when strong westerlies and fog were encountered, the voyage was uneventful. She is the first unit of the company to visit New Zealand, as the fleet is chiefly employed in the cargo trade between the Argentine and North' American ports and India, South Africa, and Australia. The crew of 45 all told of the Sierentz are chiefly Frenchmen. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.

PASSENGERS BY THE HUGHLI

A full ship of Indian passengers arrived at Auckland on Monday last, en route to Fiji. The vessel, named the Huglili, left Calcutta on December 14, and called at Auckland to discharge cargo.’ Five of the Indian passengers left Die ship at the northern port. The remainder, numbering 208, ■will continue to Fiji. Much curiosity was aroused when the Hnghii berthed at the Prince’s wharf on Monday afternoon by the variety of colour and costume worn by the men and women on board. They were all folk of some independence, having paid their passages; and many different trades and professions were represented. A martial-looking figure with heaw black heard and turbaned head, eaid that he intended joining the Fiji police force. Several others were proceeding to Suva to take up positions in the Fijian Civil Service. Others, again, were silk merchants, importers, traders, jewellers, tailors, cobblers and farmers. They had their wives and families —often childen in arms —little roundfaced infants, nursed by mothers with a red spot on the forehead. There wore between 15 and 20 women on the Hughli, half of them bavins the diedinguuihing gad mark.

BOTOE.UA AT SOUTHAMPTON. Cable advice received by the Now Zealand Shipping Company states that the Rotorua arrived at Southampton on January 13 from Wellington, via Panama and Curacao. Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. have received advice that the West Honshaw, which left Los Angeles on December 27, should reach Auckland about She is bringing cargo from Pacific Coast ports for discharge at Auckland, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Hobart, and Melbourne. Also with cargo from Pacific Coast ports the West Calera leaves San Francisco on January 27 for Auckland, Wellington, Bluff, and Melbourne. The West Cahokia follows from San Francisco on February 10 for Auckland, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Melbourne, and the West Islip from San Francisco on March 6 for Auckland, Wellington, Timaru, and Melbourne.
