Sir, — I was pleased to read the remarks of "H. W. S.” on the Taieri River embankment scheme. I think his praise cf Mr A. P. Fleming well deserved, and I am glad to see Mr Fleming’s efforts uublicly acknowledged. In getting Mr Massey to' visit the Taieri Mr Fleming did a good thing for the district, and I think this should be better recognised. Mr Fleming did good work on the Taieri River Trust, and when he found that the Public Works Department was not conducting the works as well as they might have been, he, fearlessly criticised them; and, later on, sacrificed his position on the River Trust to take control of the works.
