LITTLE BOY DROWNED. (Pee United Press Association.) - WANGANUI, October 27. Edward M. Benbrook, aged four years, was drowned in the river at Arainoho: today. He was standing near the bank ; when his hat blew into the river, and h®.stopped to the edge, and fell over. FATALITY AT QUEENSTOWN.. A CHILD DROWNED. .ill ■ ■ (Fbom Otra Own Correspondent.) QUEENSTOWN, October 27. On Saturday evening a child named' Leslie J ones Summers, aged two years and Sour months, was drowned in Town Creek. , It appears that, after having his tea, he went out to clay in Ihe back yard, through which the Town Creek flows. The child must.have slipped in the creek, and when he was missed half an hour later search was .made among the neighbours. Meantime, kwaung' woman, who was crossing the footbridge of Town Creek, a block further down, noticed the body of the child lying face down in the creek. Help was summoned, and every effort was made by means of artificial respiration to -revive the child, hnt without success. The creek was in partial flood at the time of the fatality. An inquest was held yesterday, when a verdict was returned that death was due to drowning, there being no direct evidence to show how the child got into the water. The child was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs William Joseph Summers, of Queenstown. TRAIN RUNS INTO GIG. . 1 ONE OCCUPANT SERIOUSLY ' INJURED. (Pee United Peess Association.) AUCKLAND, October 87. The second express from Auckland ran into a horse and gig at the Taupiri crossing at 10.30 to-night, killing the horse outright, as well as smashing the vehicle to pieces. The gig was being driven by Mr John Bishon. a farmer, of Taupiri, who was accompanied bv Mrs Bishop. Ths horse had been pulled up by Mr Bishop in order to allow the express, which he had heard approaching, to negotiate, the crossing, when the animal. became frightened. and made for the line. The tram, which was travelling at a good pace, crashed into the animal, throwing the gig aside and hurling the occupants out. Dr Isdslc. of Ngaruawhia, was immediately summoned, and an examination Rhowed Mr Bishop to be unhurt, although he suffered from severe shock. Mrs Bishop we s seriously in hired, and was removed to the Hamilton Hospital by the ambulance. Al'an Moore, aged nine years, who lives with his parents at 59 Stuart street, while running after a hall on Sunday evening Innned and fe'l. sustaining a fracture of the left arm. The lad was admitted to Hospital where he is progressing favourably.
