The Katoa is to leave Auckland to-morrow with cargo for discharge at Gisborne, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The Kakapo is now expected to sail tomorrow for Timaru to complete loading for Westport and Gieymouth. The Kahika is expected to leave Gisborne to-day for Now Plymouth, Wellington, and Dunedin. She will load here earlv next week for Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne. Tho Karetu has been fixed to load at Newcastle and Sydney this week for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Oamaru, and Bluff. The Trovcrbyn is to sail on Friday tor Hobart, where tho remainder of her New York cargo will be discharged. The Maunganui arrived at Wellington at 9 a.m. yesterday from Sydney with passengers, mails, and ' camo. She is timed to sail at 3 p.m. on Friday on the return vovage. The Wingatui was to leave Wellington yesterday afternoon for Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is duo here on Friday, and is scheduled to sail the same dav for Lytte*ton. Wellington, and Auckland. The New Zealand Shinning Company advises that the Tekea, which arrived at Port Chalmers on Monday evening from London, is exoectod to come to Dunedin to-day. She will berth at ihe Victoria wharf, where the balance of ber local cargo will ho discharged. The Tekoa will sail about the end of the week for Lyttelton to continue discharge. Captain J. She is to sail tomorrow for Bluff. Wellington, and Auckland to complete loading. *■ THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL. The R.M.S. Tahiti arrived at Wellington at 3 p.m. on Monday from. Messrs Turnbull. Martin, and Co. advise that tho Swayne and Hoyte Line steamer West Calera is now due at Dunedin on Friday from Pacific Coast ports, via Auckland and Lyttelton, to discharge a large quantity of general cargo, case oil, and lumber. She will sail early next week for Sydney to complete discharge. INCOMING VANCOUVER MAIL. The R.M.S Niagara, which left Vancouver last Wednesday, is due at Honolulu to-day at Suva on November 5. and at Auckland on Sunday, Novembci 3. WIRELESS PROM ROTORUA. A wireless message received by the New Zealand Shipping Company from the captain of the Rotorua states that the vessel will arrive- at Wellington at daybreak on Saturday from London and Southampton. The Rotorua is bringing a large number of passengers for New Zealand, and cargo for discharge at Wellington and Auckland. THE SUTTON HALL. Later advice received by the local agents for the A. and A. Line states that the steamer Sutton Hall sailed from New York on October 18 with general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington. Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. The vessel is due at Auckland on November 26 and at Dunedin about December 12. THE CLANSMAN SAILS. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 27. The Clansman, which was unable to sail for Russell last evening owing to trouble with the stokehold staff, secured a new staff and sailed to-night MATAKANA’S MOVEMENTS. The vessel is scheduled to leave Wellington on November 17 for London, via Montevideo and Teneriffe. MOTOR SHIP ECONOMIES. In view of the importance of reducing the cost of operation of shins at the present time, the figures published in a recent issue of The Motor Ship giving the fuel consumption of some of the latest oil-engined vessels are of interest. Tho largest motor cargo vessel in the world is tho Svealand, and on her maiden voyage she carried 20,600 tons, of ore. at an average speed of H. 6 knots, on a daily oil consumption of 20. G tons. Another cargo ship of 10.000 tons deadweight averages 12 knots on 13.6 tons of oil. whilst the new Harwicb-Esbierg motor mail a,nd passenger vessel Parkoston. of about 3000 tons gross, has a. speed of 151 knots on a consumption of 12 tons daily. A steamer of somewhat lower power than the Parkestpn consumes 55 tons’ of coal per dav and has an engineroom staff of 19, against nine on the Parkeston. NEW MOTOR TANKERS. At the Howaldtswerke, Kiel, five twinscrew motor tankers, of 12,009 tons deadweight. are being built to the order of the Gcrman-American Petroleum Company (the Standard Oil Company). The first, the Penelope. was launched recentlv. She is to he equipped with two tour-cylinder Sulzer engines. each of 1500 b.h.n. at 110 r.p.m., and having cylinders GOO mm. bore. Two Dieseldriven generating sets are to he provided, each coupled-to a 330 b.h.n. Sulzer engine, running at 210 r.p.m. The Penelope is 469.6 ft long torn.), with a beam of 63ft and a depth of 35.3 ft. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE. The following movements of vessels engaged in the trans-Pacific cargo services are announced by the Union Company:— ' Hauralci arrived at Vancouver at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. October 13, and was to sail on Saturday for San Francisco to complete loading for Auckland, Wellington. Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney. She is expected to clear San Frtfncisco during tho first week in November. Waiotapu. from Pacific Coast ports. Ipft Wellington on Wednesday last for Melbourne and Sydney. Wairuna, from Sydney, arrived at Suva on October IG, and was expected to clear Lautoka on Monday for Vancouver. Waihemo, from Auckland, arrived at Vancouver cn October 17. and is loading there and at San Francisco for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, and New Plymouth. She is expected to clear San Francisco finally about October 30. Waitemata cleared San Francisco on October 14 for Napier, Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth. She ia due at Napier on November 7. Sierra Nevada (chartered steamer) is expected to sail from San Francisco about October 31 for Auckland, Wellington, and Sydney. Luciston (chartered steamer) is to leave Vancouver this week for Melbourne and Sydney.

Adams, second officer of the Waitomo, has been granted holiday leave, his place being taken by Mr H. Evington. Captain J. Stewart has been appointed master of the Kanna, relieving Captain A. Murray, who is on holiday.
