ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held last evening, there being present: .Messrs G. P. M. Butterworth (in the chair-. G. Howes, G. A. Wilson. J. Also that, the society spemt £2od in bringing partridges out from England. ihe following correspondence had been received by tin committee:— From Mr 6. G. Greer, chairman of the Maniototo branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, enclosing copy of a letter sent to the Minister of Internal Affairs, asking for a three months’ open season next winter for pukeko owing to the birds being so numerous The report was adopted with tho amendment that tho society support a request for a two months’ season at most. Members expressed the opinion that a three months’ Period was much too long, although tho birds were comparatively plentiful. In referring to the recommendation rh.aj. the society spend £2CO in bringing parttidges otti, from England, the chairman said he had received a letter which showed that the proposal was still “in the air.” It, would have to he gone into carefully, and the right; game would have to he obtained. Mr Wilson said that in In’s opinion black cock should be obtained. In the course of its, report the Angling Gommittee marie the following recommendations :—T hat,, medals as last year, £2 2s and £1 Is, be given to the Otago Anglers’ Association for its Waipahi River competition on October 31. That, medals again be given to Waipahi District, Anglers’ Club for angling and oeling competitions.
