WAIKOUAITI BOROUGH COUNCIL
The monthly meeting oi the Waikouaiti Borough Council was held on Monday evening, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr R. Templet m), Crs Allcock, Cooper, Lang, MTlougal!, Mudge, and White. CORRESPONDENCE. The Chief Engineer, Public AVorks Department, Wellington, wrote forwarding a copy of an Order-in-Council amending the regulations relating to the use of motor lorries. —Received. i * The Acting Town Clerk, Christchurch, wrote forwarding a copy of a resolution protesting against a suggestion by the Government that a board be appointed, whose approval muet first be obtained before a loan could he raised by a local body, and also a further resolution passed by the Christchurch City Council favouring the establishment of a board for the purpose of funding local bodies’ loan requirements in order that interest rates and charges might be equalised.—A motion was carried in support of both resolutions.
Mrs E. Bannatyne wrote asking that the road leading to the Matanaka Estate be repaired—The AVorks Committee was authorised to have the road surfaced where necessary.
The Secretary, AVaikouaiti Beautifying Society wrote for permission to fence off and plant in trees a stiip of land adjoining Pratt street. —After considering the matter tho council decided that permission should not be given. The Secretary of the Municipal Association ot New Zealand wrote notifying the council that the next conference would be held in Dunedin, commencing on- February 4, 1926.— The Mayor was appointed to represent the council at the conference.
The Mayor reported that arrangements had been made for the transport of pipes and fittings to the site of the suplementary reservoir, and it was anticipated that the remaining work would be completed, and the additional supply of water available for the requirements of the borough before the end of the year.—Approved. The AVorks Committee reported that metal from Logan’s Point could not at present be procured, and a supply of rock was being obtained from the Matanaka quarry for street repairs. Accounts amounting to £2lB lls 5d were passed for payment.
