CITY WATER SUPPLY.
THE PRESENT POSITION. At the meeting of the City Council held last night Cr Begg, chairman of the Water Committee, said lie had been twitted a few meetings ago by the deputy niajor and other councillors The Deputy Mayor: I did not twit Cr Bcgg continued that he had been twitted because of lack of information regarding the water question. At that particular time there had been no occasion to worry about water; but the time had now arrived when their water supply would have to be watched very carefully. He had paid a visit to Silverstream one day last week and he had found tnat during the last couple of months the head waters on the Silverstream race had been cut off altogether by slips. There had been two slips, but their engineer had got to work, and all that was required now was to clear out the old race and put in 2ft concrete pipes for about two chains. Meanwhile the feeders below the two slips had been running well, but they were now beginning to snow the effects of the dry weather. They, however, were in holies of getting further supplies and the main supply from the Silverstream should soon again be available. Whare flat was being taken, in, and quite a number of other streams which were at present running to waste . couid also be taken in. The warm weather which was being experienced had caused the usual complaints as to pressure, especially as re-' garded the draw off on Mondays. So far as the general supply was concerned the reservoirs were all running over, and the short draw off on Mondays must consequently ha ascribed to some of the mams not being of sufficient diameter to meet the great load requirements. Cr Lamach said there was a complaint from Anderson’s Bay that the water appeared to bo cut off at about half-past 8. Cr Begg: Have you any idea of what part of Anderson’s Bay? Cr .Lamach: I believe it was well up the hill. Cr Scott: Yes; the house near Cr Shacklock’s.—(Laughter.) Cr Begg said *if Cr Larnach would supply him with the address of the people he would look into the matter. Cr Larnach : I will have to get it. Cr Shacklock said the trouble in the locality mentioned had been overcome, A valve had been altered, and the trouble removed. Cr Hayward: Some one is barking up the wrong tree.
