CHAOS IN CHINA
THREATENED CIVIL WAR. THE SITUATION DEVELOPS. fr®,* Association— By Telegraph—Copyright PEKING, October 20. The situation is rapidly developing. Marshal Wu-Pei-fu is arriving at Hankow to-day, where ho intends to assume the Commander-in-Chiefship of the Central Provinces Alliance, including Kiang-su, Che-kiang, Anh-wci, Hu-peh, and Fn-kien. The veteran statesman, Tsang-Hao-yi, proposes to establish an independent Administration at Hankow and to restore tho so-called Constitutional Parliament, which Tuan-Chi-jui’s chief executive abandoned. . Wu-Pei-fu’s movement is against the Peking and Mukden Governments. The Fcngtien commandant, Yang-Yu-tin~. vesterday crossed the Yangtze from Nanking with a number of Mukden troops, whereupon the fourth and tenth Kiang-su divisions, which joined Marsnal Chang-Tso-lin when Chin Sieh-Yuan was defeated in 1924, revolted, attacked and disbanded the eighth Mukden division, and sent the disarmed troops across the river. The Fengtien-ites were taken by surprise, and offered a feeble resistance. The casualties were few, and order was quickly restored. . No damage was done to foreign interests. The Fengtieners are retreating northwards. General Feng-Yuh-Siang, acting in conjunction with Wu-Pei-fu, is sending troons to cut off the Fengtieners. Several Chinese warships are sailing for the Yangtze, to support, it is understood, the Central Provinces alliances. —Reuter.
