BATTLESHIPS OBSOLETE

VULNERABLE TO SUBMARINES.

LESSON OF ITALIAN MANCEUTRES

Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright

LONDON, September 23. The naval correspondent of the Daily News states that all the battleships -were sunk or disabled by submarines or aircraft during the Italian manoeuvres, thus convincing the experts that battleships are obsolete. They have therefore been excluded from the projected new programme, which provides for a 3000-ton submarine, ■with a cruising radius of 7000 miles, and capable of diving safely to 330 ft. —Sydney Sun Cable.
