GREY RIVER IN FLOOD.

HEAVIEST FOR YEARS. WATERS NOW RECEDING. (Pee United Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, September 25. Heavy rain on Tuesday flooded the Grey River and its tributaries, and the current was within a few foot of overflowing into Greymouth rt mid-day. Ten inches were recorded in 24 hours. At Otira, where the rain continues, the skylight of the railway dining rooms was blown off, and other buildings were damaged. The Grey Valley is flooded to a higher level than for years. The bridge across the river at Ngahere was damaged, preventing railway traffic. Inangahua Junction bridge was damaged by two spans being carried away. There is much damage to roads in the Grey district. The weather cleared this afternoon, and tho floods are now receding. Tho overland express was delayed till tomorrow by damage to the line near Avooa. Telegraphic traffic is greatly delayed by damage to the lines. FIERCE GALE IN THE NORTH.
