GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS.
LARGE ENTRIES ANTICIPATED. (Pee United Pbess Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 11. The number of entries received for the dominion golf championships, open to amateurs, which are to bo held at Shirley from September 25 to October 3, will probably exceed the limit provided for (72, according (o tho programme). In order to enable ihe championships to be dealt with satisfactorily it will therefore be necessary to eliminate amateur players in excess of the number mentiond, and this will accordingly bo done on a national handicap basis. No limit, however, will bo placed on the number of professionals entering for the championships. The open championship will bo decided on September 25 and 26. Among those who have entered for the open and amateur championships are L. Quinn (Bltham), the present holder of tho amateur championship: 15. V. Wright (Timaru), the present Canterbury champion, who is entering for the dominion championship for the first time; ami A. G. Sime (Westport), who won the amateur championship on the last occasion on which it was played for at Shirley.
