OBITUARY.

THE REV. JOHN DAWSON. (Pee United Press Association.,' WELLINGTON, September ]3. The death is announced of the Rev. John Dawson, secretary of the New Zealand Alliance. He loaves a widow, one son, and two daughters. The late Mr Dawson had been recognised for a number of years past as a leading figure in the prohibition movement in New Zealand. He was a telling and effective platform speaker and an able debater. Beginning life in the humble capacity of a factory worker, he entered the Primitive Methodist ministry in 18S3. and after being in charge of circuits in different parts of New Zealand he was Jont by the Methodist Conference to the New Zealand Alliance in 1903 as its general secretary—a position which he retained till the time of his death. The late Mr Dawson was president of the Methodist Conference in the year 1915-16. He was born at Keighley (Yorkshire), and was 66 years of age.
