STATE GOVERNORS

AUSTRALIANS FOR PREFERENCE. MR LANG IN REPLY. Pnu Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, September 12. The Premier (Mr Lang) in replying to a statement by Mr Dunlop (chairman of the Chamber of Commerce) regarding local Governors, ftays: “Mr Dunlop s remarks to the press delegates seem to be a special plea for the perpetuation of snobbery. Mr Dunlop admits that there should be no difficulty to finding Australians capable of filling these positions, but he disqualifies them because they have not the correct atmosphere which he regards as essential in a Governor. Mr Dunlop is out of step with public opinion m Australia, which emphatically endorses the policy that when a position can be filled competently by an Australian it mould Hot be given to anybody outside Australia The system had been in operation in Canada for many years, and there were no indications that it had robbed Canada of its loyalty to the Empire.”
