TREATMENT OF DIABETES. AN ESTABLISHED FACTOR. (From O cp. Own Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, September 11. The use of insulin in tho treatment of diabetes has been adopted with gratifying success in Auckland and many sufferers have caiwe to bless the name of Banting, whoso discovery of tho means to extract this juioo of pancreas, ranks as one of the medical triumphs of tire generation. “It has proved a wonderful help in cases of diabetes, ’’ said a prominent medical man, ‘‘and represents one of tho most important advances made in tho treatment of this disease for manv years.” Several cases wore quoted in which men and women had experienced wonderful benefits as a result of tho insulin treatment of oases after they bad been for years in miserable health, taking no pleasure in their work of life. Now they were enabled to carry out their duties in comfort. Insulin had also proved invaluable in the treatment of diabetic coma, a most serious complication which ended in death. Injections had brought ninny a patient to consciousness and had served to prolong life in a wonderful manner. The results at the o-neral hospital and in private practice alike, said tho doctor, had been very satisfacteny during the past two years, and insulin treatment was now an established factor in the treatment ” diabetes in Auckland as elsewhere.
