MINING.
ALLUVIAL TIN DEPOSITS. In Cornwall, one of the oldest tin mining fields in the world, where for centuries rich and extensive alluvial tin deposits have been locked up in private lands, a new departure has been made which will probably have tarreaching results in connection with the development of the mineral resources of the United Kingdom. A corporation called the British Alluvial Tin Syndicate (Limited) has obtained a lease of 1000 acres of aUnyial tin deposits on the estate of Viscount Falmouth, and a large bucket dredge, which cost £15,000, has been erected on the property. Power is obtained from three engines of 80 h.p. each. The tin is saved on a system of tables, having a spread of 16,000 square feet, the material being treated at the rate of three tons per minute From the tests made assays as high as 70 per cent, of tin concentrates were obtained.
