SLIPS ON MARBLE FLOOR. MERRY QUARTER OF AN HOUR. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, September 9. Some little time ago Mr John Edio. tho number for Bruce, foil when crossing the lobby just inside the main entrance to furl lament House, and this afternoon he ■nused considerable amusement by a reference in (be House, to tho matter. Mr Edio wanted to know if the Prime Minister would have a carpet put across tho marble floor. At present, ho said, (he place was more a death-trap than some of the level railway crossings he had heard mentioned in the Chamber. The Prime Minister said that ho- thought tho matter ought to have been mentioned io Mr Speaker, who was in charge of •natters of tho kind “It seems an awful name.” added Mr Coates, “that that beautiful marble, should bo covered up. I admit that if you don’t watch your step vow might slip. I don’t know that I can suggest anything to the honourable gentleman knowing his convict,ions.—(Laughter.) Mr Coates: I shall bo very pleased to consult with Mr Speaker to sec if a better oath can bo mapped out for tho honourable member. —(Laughter.) Various Voices: More water with it.
