PENSIONER’S FRAUD.
GRAVEST OF CASES. •ek United Press Association.) TIMARU. September 10. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day Margaret Jane Finney pleaded guilty to three charges of obtaining a greater amount of pension than she was entitled to by making a wilful false statement. The evidence showed that defendant; had received a pension in 1919, but had subsequently secured employment, failing to notify the Pensions Department of her earnings. The total amount received which defendant was net entitled to was £BO los 4d. The Magistrate, Air E. D. Mosley, S.M,. said tlmr the case was the gravest and mosr deliberate case of fraud that had been brought under his notice under tho Pensions Art of late veers. Defendant was convicted and ordered to refund the amount at tho rale of 5s weekly, and was fined £lO. in default one month's imprisonment, with bard labour.
