ADVERTISING ROTORUA.

A SPECIAL Fim). AUCKLAND PRESS COMMENT. (From Oum Own Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, August 5. The Rotorua Borough Council has decided to strike a rate for an advertising fund. In the Act that created the borough three years ago, the council was given power to levy a special rate, sufficient to produce a maximum ol £IOOO, which could be used only for advertising the district ami maintaining and developing its attractions. Referring to the matter, the Star says: Rotorua was left too long under Government control. The Government, it is true, has done a great deal for Rotorua, but dependence on centralised authority was not good for the citizens and generally not in the best interests of the most remarkable tourist and health resort in the countrv. We believe that in certain directions, and particularly in advertising, better results can he obtained from a system of self-government than from that of control by a Government Department. ’ Rotorua has not been adequately advertised in the past, even in New Zealand itself. There should be. for example, better facilities, as there are in American resorts, for holdin" in the town of conferences of various kinds, which would draw visitors from all parts of New Zealand.
