WAIKATO STOCK SALE.

SENSATIONAL INCIDENTS. BIG PRICES REALISED. (Peb United Press Association.) ■ HAMILTON, August 5. A sensational incident, resulting in a serious injury to Miss A. Kelso, of Tamahere, owner of “Patch” and other prominent hunters arid minor injuries to her sister, marred a sale conducted at Tamahere at to-day’s sale of “Pencarrow” Jersey herd. A timid cow was being led into a packed marquee, but went mad on sighting the crowd. Breaking loose from its attendants, it carreered wildly around the ring. Seeing no exit, the infuriated animal reared upon the tiers of seats. The two Misses Kelso were sitting at a spot selected for the animal’s “Wild West” display. Miss A. Kelso ivas hit forcibly on the head by the cows’ horns, and sustained concussion of the brain and was also injured about the body by the beast’s horns. The younger Miss Kelso was thrown to the ground and appeared to be seriously hurt but fortunately the animal was overpowered. Its conquest came only in time to prevent a riot. • Miss A. Kelso was unconscious but recovered later. The younger Miss Kelso was little the worse for her exciting experience. The dispersal sale of Mr F. E. Day’s cattle, comprising one of the best known Jersey herds in the dominion, was held at Tamahere, near Hamilton, to-day. High prices were realised. Competition was very keen. The four-year-old bull, Masterful, imported from Jersey Island and winner of many championships round New Zoa'and, brought 559 guineas, which is held to ho the highest price obtained at auction in the dominion for a pedigree bull. Of the cows, two sold to 300 guineas, the first 20 offered averaging 100 guineas. Young heifers brought to 167 guineas. Some 30 cows averaged 76 guineas, 10 two-year-old heifers 89 guineas, 11 yearling heifers 73 guineas, 18 yearling bulls 56 guineas, and four aged bulls 172 guineas. The total sale realised £6294
