THEATRE MANAGEMENT.

TO THE EDITOB. Sir, —I read with interest the letter by ‘‘Shylock” on the management at His Majesty’s Theatre. May I air another grievance against the management of J. C. Williamson (N.Z.), Ltd.? I would like to know why some arrangement is not made whereby suburban residents may be able to see the conclusion of a production and also be able to catch their last train. Surely on nights when the 11.15 p.m. does not run it might be arranged for the performance to commence at 7.45 p.m. This would allow ample time for people coming from Mosgiel and other stations by the 7 p.m. train to be seated, and would give a little more time at the other end of the programme. As an alternative, why not “cut out’’ some of the tedious, long intervals we have experienced lately, twice during each performance? Such long_ intervals seem unnecessary, and those patrons who have been forced to leave the theatre at 10.25 p.m, much to their own and other people’s discomfort, will surely endorse my statement. It newer seems to occur to the management that in the course of a year they must lose huge sums through people knowing that they have not a hope of seeing the whole of a performance and of catching the train too, and it seems ridiculous to pay the price that is required for a seat and not 'see the finale. One would think that both theatre managers and railway companies would come to an arrangement which would bring better financial results to both. I am sure that many of vour readers who rely on the railway will agree with me and will hope to see arrangements made for their 'benefit—l am, etc., A Suburban Resident. Wingatui, July 14.
