OTAGO A. AND P. SOCIETY.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A special meeting of the Executive and Grounds Committees of the Otago A. and 1 - Society was held in the Beard Room yesterday afternoon and attended by Messrs George Black (president, in the chair), H. Price, D. Andrew, R. A. S. Cantrell, H. Turner, W. 0. M'Kellar, James Begg, T. T. Ritchie, and H. C. Campbell. The President explained that they had received a suggestion that the dates of the Summer Show be altered from Wednesday and Thursday to Thursday and Friday of that week. The Chairman pointed out that it would not suit the retailers to observe Friday as their half-holiday as that was their late night, and it was unreasonable to ask them to observe Friday afternoon as a holiday. After the matter had been fully discussed it was unanimously decided to adhere to the dates already arranged. Correspondence was read between the directors of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition and the society, in which the Exhibition Company advised that the society could rest assured that it would receive the hearty co-operation and assistance of the Elxhibition Company in furthering the interests of the show to be held in November. The Grounds Committee reported that some repairs were necessary to the boundary fence. It was decided to authorise the Grounds Committee to make the necessary repairs. It was also reported that the judging ring required some top-dressing and attention, and authority was given to work in conjunction with the Otago Rugby Football Union, who have a lease of the grounds, to endeavour to have the worst portion of the ring top-dressed at as early a date as possible. The president submitted a sketch of a proposed plaque that has been suggested should be issued as a memento of the Exhibition Show. It is proposed that a copy of this plaque be issued to exhibitors gaining champion prizes in both the male and female classes in all breeding sections, and probably additional copies might be issued in other classes. The design submitted was approved and authority'given to order same. A letter was read from Mr Thomas Logan in connection with the examination of horses for the Horse Parade, which was referred to the Horse Committee. An exhibitor a letter asking if the society were prepared to provide accommodation for attendants in charge of stock was referred to the executive with instructions to make the necessary arrangements if possible, and to advise exhibitors accordingly. . . The Dunedin Dairymen’s Association advised that it was prepared to subscribe £8 prize money for the best dairyman s turnout provided the society was willing to subscribe an equal amount. The Secretary pointed out that last year the prizes offered amounted to £l2, but the Dairymen’s Association considered that in the circumstances, and being an exhibition show, the prizes should be increased. The offer was received with thanks, the association to be notified that the society would be very pleased to contribute the amount asked.
