OUTBREAK AT DARGAVILLE. fPs* United Pbess Association.) DARGAVILLE, July 13. Firo totally destroyed a large dwelling and outbuildings on the Horetore Estate, owned and occupied by Dowding and Hansen. The building, which was originally the homestead of Mr Maurice Harding, a pioneer settler in the district, was a wellknown landmark. It was insured in the State Fire and New Zealand Offices. STORE AND DWELLING DESTROYED. OCCUPANTS’ NARROW ESCAPE. (Peb United Preps Association.) GISBORNE, July 13. Firo destroyed a store and dwelling at Waiohika, the occupants, Mr and Mrs Tougon and four children having a narrow escape. The insurances total £IOOO. BLAZE AT LYTTELTON. (Peb United Pbess Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 13. Fire did damage to the extent of £7OO at the. Mitre Hotel, Lyttelton, this evening. It started in the storeroom under a stairpase and made its, way up the stairs to a sitting-room and two other rooms. The building is insured for £ISOO in the Phoenix Office, and contents for £I4OO in the South British Office. HOUSE DESTROYED AT PORT CHALMERS. At Port Chalmers yesterday forenoon a six-roomed wooden house in Bellevue place, owned by Mrs N. M‘Donald and tenanted by Mr A. Porteous, was destroyed by fire, practically nothing being saved. The fire is supposed to have started near the hotwator service in the kitchen. It spread rapidly, the fresh northerly gale fanning the names. When the brigade arrived the position was hopeless. The water supply was poor, but it served to save the detached washhouse. The insurance covers ware £SOO with the New Zealand Insurance Company on the building, and £250 with the South British Company on the furniture.
