BOWLING.

By Jack.

The majority of the local clubs are now making preparations for the next season, and annual meetings are the order of the day. The St. Clair Club will hold its annual meeting to-night. The annual report shows that the past season was one. of the most notable in the history of the club. Although the club was not so successful in the intcrcluh games as in the previous season it had the honour of winning the four-rink championship and also tlie single rink championship. The latter competition was inaugurated during the past season, a handsome shield being given by Mr G. Adess (St. Hilda Club) for annual competition. Good progress is being made with the club’s new green, which is looking exceptionally well. The billiard table, especially during the winter months, has proved a decided asset to the club. The Kaituna’s annual meeting was held yesterday. The report shows the club to be in a healthy condition financially, and although it was not very successful from a match-winning point of view, the season proved very enjoyable to menroers, who took full advantage of the ideal weather conditions for practice. The St. Hilda Club’s annual meeting was held last Thursday. The club’s representatives, though not successful iu the interclub championship, occupied a prominent position, and also was fairly successful in the four-rink championship. The green played weil throughout the season, dee to the careful attention of the groenkeepor and the plentiful supply of water available.

The annual meeting' of tho Caversham Club, which will be held next week, makes satisfactory reading from members’ point of view. Tho members took full advantage of the fine weather, and the green was fully occupied in the evenings. In the interclub banner competition the clnb was represented by nine rinks, and had the honour of being runners-up for the banner. Tho billiard table, was extensively patronised during the winter mouths. The Kaikorai and St. Hilda Clubs met in tho second round of the billiards competition on Monday evening, with the following result (Kaikorai names appearing first) :—Stewart 350, Ormond 139; Rankiji 127, Jacobsen 62; Campbell 338, I’eacock 92; I’iper 78, Hinton S 3 ; Keiior So, Kelleher 111: Armstrong 70. Thomas 79; A. Lindsay 00, Adess 303; Morrison SO, O’Suilivau 05. Kaikorai,, 4 wins, St. Hilda 4 wins. OVERSEAS VISITORS. Full particulars of the forthcoming visit of a party of -10 British bowlers are now to hand, having reached the executive of the Dominion Bowling Association in the form of a letter from Mr Orchard, addressed to Mr W. Coltman, of Australia, a former president of tho D.B.A. The latter was in close communication with Mr Orchard during his recent visit to England in regard to the arrangements that might be made for the proposed visit, and Sir Orchard naturally sent tho details to Mr Coltman, who very properly passed them on to the controlling body. The itinerary clearly shows Mr Orchard’s keen interest In Now Zealand, for the visitors will spend 76 days here, and only 43 in Australia. Arriving at Perth on October 27, they visit only the State capitals, Adelaide. Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, finally leaving Sydney for Auckland on December 9, and arriving here on December 13. These dates look wrong, but assuming that they are correct it is proposed to leave here on the 19th and arrive in New Plymouth on the 21st; leave there for Wanganui on (he 23rd, and go to Palmerston North on the 20th, Boxing Day. It is evidently not intended that they should take part in any Christmas tournament, for they go on to Napier on the following Monday, tho 28th; leaving the Hawke's Bay capital for Wellington on the 31st. This will give them an opportunity to join in anything going on at New Year in Wellington, as they only leave there for Nelson on the following Monday, January 4. Thursday will find them viewing the magnificent Buffer Gorge, on their way to Westport, but they will not have much chance to test what many have described as tho best groon in Now Zealand for they will arrive there pretty late in tho evening, and aa they qa** duo in Christchurch tho following day they will have to leave fairly early next morning. They stay in Christchurch from Friday till the following Wednesday, the 13th, when they leave for Timaru. How they get there is not stated, but apparently they are spending tho night somewhere on the way, for they are not duo in Timaru till the following day, Thursday. On Friday they go on to Oamaru, and on Saturday to Dunedin, where they stay from tho 16th till the 31st, taking part in* the dominion tournament On the return journey they are to visit tho Waitomo caves, on their way to Rotorua, finally taking their departure by tho Taimii on February 27, most likely from Auckland.

NO VISITORS FROM SOUTH AFRICA. Tho bowlers of South Africa, have declined with regret the invitation to visit New Zealand during the coming summer, as they are arranging for a team to leave for England early next year, but they express tlia hope that “tho time is not so far distant when a tour of your beautiful country might bo undertaken.” It seems, however, that there may be some visitors from Canada, aa tho president of their association is taking up the matter with tho various provincial bodies, to find out if they can get sufficient volunteers to make up a party. Bowling life states that the personnel of the touring party is as follows: — Mcssre James Wall (president N.S.W. Bowling Association), Frank Gartrell (vice-presi-dent), Tom Yates, E. Palmer, Vic. Casey, Geo. Parkes, W. Bull, W. Webster, Bon. Stone, L. Rigney, J. Mackic, E. Marshall, Reg. Varley, Colonel Morris, Ted Button, A B. Templeton, J. English, W. Anderson, A. Lewis, and S. M’Lean. The first nine are bringing their wives with them, and Mr Stone will also bo accompanied bv his two daughters. It was understood that they would be returning direct from Suva to Fiji, but Bowling Life states that they are returning on the Niagara, “which leaves Suva on Monday, July 20.’’ Thi-?. date (says “Tnmdler’’ in the Auckland Star) is clearly wrong, as the Niagara arrives in Auckland from Suva on that day. The Christchurch police rink, which put up such a fine performance during the summer months, is still adding to its laurels (write:: “Skip” in the Christchurch Press) They have played several games on tho indoor rink, and have been victorious every time. Tho combination is an exceptionally strong one, comprising ns it does Hodgins, Almond, Hampton, and M'Kenric. Almond is well known in the couth, being an ex-member of tbo Port Chalmers, Caversham, and BaJclutha Clubs.
