1 1 «' ■' COLLISJ OX WITH S'JTJAMER WAINUI. (Peb United P.bess Association.) AUCKLAND, July 8. The Union Company’s steamer Wainui collided with and sank the steam launch Iris Eileen off the Karifritoto beacon after leaving for Gisborne last night. Two men on the launch (Messrs Albert Lawrence O’Brien and Raymond Little.) jumped into the water and were picked up by the NVainui’s boats and brought, back to Auckland by the steamer, apparently little the worse for their immersion. The launch was owned by Air O’Brien and hu brother, and was valued at about £I2OO.
