The occasion * that of a competition for a shield presented tktion riW , S- the «»**** i„t tiation ritual. Five entries—Milton Kaiof Oiago were received. P.P.G M. Bro C. H. assisted by P.G. Bro W h" Hutton and PjP.G.M. Bro. Rosevear. acted as judges. The competition proved interesting and close, several fine renderings being given. P.P.G.M. Bro. C. H. Russell, in awarding the first place to tho Queen of Otago Ladies' Lodge, commended the team s effort as an especially good one, stressing the fact that a very High standard had been reached. He also went into detail on the work necessary, instancing the necessity of closer attention to pausation, variety of tone, and correct pronunciation. The outstanding fault was too great haste in delivery. He especially commended tho rendering of the Warden's charge by the winning team as the best that had been heard in any competition to date. Loyal Alexandra and Pride of Kaitangata were placed second and third respectively. P.G.M. Bro. A. Wylie then presented the shield to the winners, who received an enthusiastic reception. Sister Clements, W.G., expressed thanks on behalf of the team, saying that it felt rewarded for the strenuous practices it had done in preparation. After supper had been served a social evening was spent. Members of the District Executive addressed the meeting, and a vote of thanks to the judge and his assistants was _ passed. Song and story kept the meeting going merrily, items being 1 contributed by D.P.G.M. Bro. G. Clarke, P.G.J.C.P. Robertson, Bros. Edgar. Ed wards, Russell, and Hutton: and the ladies" choir delighted those present with 6evera selections. The conducting of the nexi competition was left in the hands of the District Executive. Before the proceedings plosed the Tapanui Lodgs was heartily toasted by those present, and the thanks of the visitors expressed for thn hospitality extended. An extremely successful function concluded at midnight with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
