POPE AND PILGRIMS
DR M..NNIX DELIGHTED, LONDON, June 6. The Rome correspondent of the Sydney Sun states that Archbishop Mannix cxv pressed both his personal and the pilgrims’ delight at the reception accorded them by tile Pope. Archbishop Mannix said that nothing could have been more fraternal or gracious. The Pope spoke with great feeling of his appreciation and gratitude for the sacrifices made by members of his flock in coming to Home. His Holiness also lengthily discussed the advisability of the pilgrims of Irish extraction going to eee their old homes, and remarked; “Ireland ia particularly dear to me because Italy, especially the northern provinces, owes much to Ireland for the splon. dour of holiness and science.”
Archbishop Mannix added; “We are delighted with the Holy Father's reception, which amply repaid us for the long journey.” The Australians, after making a tour pf Rome, will go to London.
