A REGENCY PROPOSED

LONDON, Juno 21 (Received June 22, at 5.5 pm)

The Daily Express's Paris correspondent states - ' that Persia is tired of the Shah, who prefers to live abroad, and as the priests have persuaded the Persians that a Republic is wrong, Riza Kahn proposes to crown one of the young princes and appoint himself Regent. Twelve ye are ago Riza was only a commissionaire at the Legation, but during the war he became an officer, and General Ironside after the war appointed him organiser of the rabble of the Persian army. Consequently Riza found himself in command of an army which is now 40,000 strong.—A. and N.Z. Cable.

Riza Kahn, the Sirdah Sepab, has been Prime Minister and Minister of War in Persia since September, 1924.
