Many Labour demonstratiofis took place throughout the country yesterday protesting against the continuance of unemployment. A gathering in Trafalgar square carried banners inscribed “Justice, Not Chanty,” “Work or Maintenance.” Resolutions •were adopted demanding the provision of socially useful work, and in the meantime an allowance of £1 10s a week for adult males, 10s for a wife, and 5s for each child.—Sydney Sun Cable. LONDON, Juno 21. (Received June 22, at 7.15 p.m.) The unemployed demonstration in Trafalgar square was addressed by Labour members of the House of Commons and others. The proceedings were most orderly. The speakers campared the display of wealth at Ascot with the poverty of the unemployed. They denounced the Government’s policy regarding China. A resolution was carried calling on the Government to establish a National Employment Development Board. There were also demonstrations in Glasgow, Hull, and elsewhere.—Reuter.
