GENERAL NEWS.
The half-yearly meeting: of Court Pride of the Valley (Juvenile Foresters) attached to Court Pride of the Leith, was held on .Saturday evening lust, when there was a largo attendance of members. The youthful officers carried out their duties in an exemplary manner, and the adult officers had an easy task. An official visit was received from P.C.R. Sister G. F. Stevens (Past President), Sister A. Godfrey, P.C.R.’s Bros. T. M'Nutty, 11. H. Gaston, and G. L. Vv almsley, and the secretary, Bro. J. K. Macfle, members of the Juvenile Council of Otago and Southland. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows,;— 0.R., Bro. M. H. Gaston; S.C.R., Bro. J. C. L. Mason; S.W., Bro. J. A. Millar; J.W., Bro. D. L. Donovan; 5.8., Bro. J. S. R. Bunting; J. 8., Bro. D. M'Lean; and Assistant Secretary, Bro. D. N. Eokholf. The newly-elected officers were installed bv the council officers, and they all returned thanks for their election Officers of the council replied to the toast of (ho council. Members were entertained with plenty of fruit before closing the meeting. The ffty-first annual meeting of tho Roslyn Institute was held on Friday. Tho president (Mr J. Greenfield) occupied the chair and submitted the annual report and balance sheet tor the- year ended April 30, which contained the following; ‘'The period covered by the report completes 51 years of the institute’s existence, and it is pleasing to note that an increased interest has taken place in the library, and a number of now subscribers have joined. It was decided at the last, armual meeting to increase tho subscription to 7s 6d as from May 1, 1925, which will help our finances considerably. During tho year part of tho section on the south side of the hall was sold, and the proceeds will ho devoted to repairs to tho buiding upon which nothing has been expended for many years. A sum of £l6 11s lOd was expended on new books, and this sum represented an addition of (nearly 100 volumes. Subscriptions total £l6 10s from 63 subscribers, and our tola! income amounts to £2O Is 9d. We. began tho year with a credit balance of £3l 7s 6d, and we finish with a credit of £24 5s 3d. tho difference being largely accounted for by the inereaivd amount .spent this year on new books.” The election of office-bearers resulted as follows: President, Mr J. Greenfield; vice-president, Mr X. Galbraith; bon. secretary and treasurer, Mr F. 11. Colder; librarian, Mr A. Ramsay ; Commitlco— Messrs W. Alexander, J. Armstrong, E. F. Paterson, G. .Simpson, and J. S. Webb: Book Selection Committee Messrs Anastrong, Colder, Galbraith, and Greenfield.
